Standard equipment rental

How do I book tents and other camping equipment?
You start by clicking standard equipment rental on the front-page. Then you choose a tent type according to your needs, choose the rental period and finally choose to pick up the order at our shop/office in Smiðjuvegur 6, rauð gata, post code 200, or have it sent to your hotel/hostel/Airbnb apartment or other location in Reykjavík for a small fee.

Do I need to book in advance?
If you are booking through this website you need to book your camping equipment at least 24 hours prior to the start of the rental period. If that is not possible in your case, please give us a call or send us an email and we will figure it out together :)

When can I pick up and return equipment?
Our office is open from 09:00 to 16:00 on weekdays during the summer. If you need to pick up or return equipment at other hours, you can do so using our drop-box which is outside our office. We will send you the key combination after you let us know that you will need to use it.

What is the minimum rental period?
The minimum rental period is 2 days. That is to say that the minimum payment we charge for any of our equipment is equal to a two day rental. The equipment can however, of course, be returned earlier at your own convenience.


What happens if I am not able to return the equipment in time at the end of the rental period?
There is not penalty fee for late returns, you will simply be charged for the additional rental period according to our regular prices. However please inform us as soon as possible so we have an idea of when to expect you.

What if the equipment gets damaged?
Our rental rate assumes a limited amount of wear, which can be expected to occur, with rental use. However, rips, tears, excessive dirt or stains, or missing parts will result in additional charges for repair or replacement.


Pre-pitched tents at festivals

Do I need to book ahead, or can I just show up at the festival campsite?
You need to book ahead and we recommend you book as early as possible since the prices will increase the closer it gets to the festival. Also, we usually run out of available tents long before the festivals start. We are limited by the size of our allocated space at the festivals, not by our stock of tents so availability will greatly vary between festivals.


How do I find the Rent-A-Tent site at the festival?
The Rent-A-Tent sites are always easy to find at festival campsites, marked with flags and banners. Our staff wears brightly colored clothing with our logo and they are happy to help at any time.


How do I find my tent?
The Rent-A-Tent staff is at your service at the camp site day and night during the festival. Our staff will take you through the check-in process and direct you to your tent upon your arrival. All the tents are marked with a number and the whole campsite is organized so your particular tent will be easy to find.


When can I check-in and when do I have to check-out?
At Secret Solstice you can check in from Thursday June 15th at 14:00, and check out time is on Monday June 19th at 13:00.


At Þjóðhátíð you can check in from Thursday August 3rd at 16:30 and check out time is on Monday August 7th at 13:00.

Pre-pitched tents for groups upon request

Is it possible to have a camping site set up and fully prepared for a group of people somewhere in the Icelandic country site?
Of course that is possible, in fact, projects like that are one of our specialties. Please send us an email to info@rentatent.is for more information.


Payment

How do I pay for my booking?
You can pay with credit card via a secure e-commerce platform from Borgun, or by bank-transfer. 

If I choose to pay by bank-transfer, how much time do I have to finish the payment after I book the equipment?
The payment needs to be transferred in the next 24 hours after the booking has been made.

Do I need to pay a deposit or any extra fees?
We do not ask for a security deposit and there are no extra fees.

What are the exchange rates?
You can choose between number of different currencies at the top of this site. The exchange rate is provided by Google once per day and automatically updated on our this site.
